1) We need to return to previous vaccine administration codes 90471 (initial injection) and 90472 (each additional). Do not use 90473 (nasal/oral)- it is no longer recognized.
2) Now need to add -25 modifier to the preventive care (99381-99385, 99391-99395) or E&M (99212-99215) visit when also coding for vaccine administration (90471-90472)
3) For “shots only” visits, physicians should
not code 99212 just for stopping into the room. We will bill for just the immunization and the administration codes
4. For higher level 99214-99215 resident visits, faculty must see patient and document involvement to bill at higher 99214-99215 level). This is not a change- just a reminder. Please remember that all patients need to be staffed before they leave. Let us know if you spent at least 25 minutes with a patient.
