Effective 9/13/13:  We now have flu vaccine (except no Flu Mist for private insurance yet). Please recommend flu vaccine to all eligible patients at well child or illness visits.

This month we have received mostly Pediarix (instead of Pentacel or separate DTaP).  We also need to give influenza vaccine to most 12 month olds which means more than 6 shots with our current immunization schedule.

We will therefore change to the following immunization schedule:

2 mos – Pediarix, HIB, PCV13, Rota

4 mos – DTaP, HIB, IPV, PCV13, Rota

6 mos – Pediarix, HIB, PCV13, Rota

12 mos – Pentacel, PCV13, MMR, varicella, Hep A, influenza (if needed)

We will suspend giving the Hep B at 1 month of age as we are giving Pediarix at 2 mos.  If children have already had Hep B at 1 month of age, use Pentacel at the 2 month visit.

We continue to have a shortage of DTaP for private insurance patients, so check with your nurse before ordering.  For the latest on vaccine shortages from CDC: http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/vac-gen/shortages/
