Iesha Johnson MBA, BSN, RN

Clinical Supervisor: Neuroscience Clinic

My name is Iesha Johnson and I am a native Marylander.  Nursing has been my passion since high school.  In high school, I enrolled in the nursing program after which I became a certified nursing assistant (CAN).  I worked as a CNA for a short while and realized that I wanted to offer more to patients and families.  I pursued my Bachelors of Science degree as a non-traditional college student.  After graduation in 2008, I worked primarily in Women’s care as a labor and delivery nurse and supervisor.  From there I worked as an IVF nurse coordinator and as a GYN telehealth nurse, both in the ambulatory setting.

As a supervisor, I was enjoyed the management side of nursing/healthcare.  Thus, I pursued by Masters of Business Administration (MBA) and received my MBA degree in 2017.  In management, I worked with and had to manage people that come from different socioeconomic backgrounds, those who have different perspectives, attitudes and personalities.  As a manager, I gained a better understanding of people and their behaviors and how impactful a manager can be.  I found it challenging but also rewarding in how I could invoke change amongst my team members to attain our overall goals.  Consequently, I invest heavily in staff members I oversee because I believe that everyone has something to offer and sometimes they need help bringing that something out.  I have had several “counseling” sessions to not only show the employee that I care to hear and understand their concerns and perspective; but to also assist them in understanding themselves and other peoples’ perspectives.

In summation, my experience as a nurse and a manager has equipped me with the skills necessary to guide, encourage, and motivate people to achieve their goals.  I believe it is imperative to have an understanding of people, behaviors and personalities to provide a successful, tailored mentorship.
